The Lodge Stanwell, Heathrow is a private, family-run retreat nestled in the heart of the historic village of Stanwell. Originally a 19th-century red-brick barn, the building has been thoughtfully adapted over the years—from its agricultural beginnings to housing service members during the Second World War. Today, it offers guests a peaceful and characterful stay, just minutes from Heathrow Terminal 5, yet worlds away in charm.

Stanwell is a village with deep roots in English history. In 1215, it is believed that the barons and knights who opposed King John gathered here before riding to nearby Runnymede, where the Magna Carta was sealed—laying the foundation for centuries of civil liberties.

The village is also connected to the dramatic events of 1605. Lord Knyvett, the man credited with foiling the Gunpowder Plot and arresting Guy Fawkes, held lands in Stanwell and is buried in the Church of St Mary the Virgin—just a few hundred yards from The Lodge. On quiet days, you may hear the melodious chime of the church’s six historic bells ringing across the village, despite the nearby pub being called The Five Bells—a charming local quirk.

The origin of the name “Stanwell” is thought to come from St Anne’s Well, a medieval spring once renowned for its healing waters. Remarkably, the well still exists and can be visited just a few dozen yards south of The Lodge, tucked into peaceful greenery that has remained unchanged for generations.

The village offers more than just history. Just a short stroll away are two popular local pubs: The Five Bells, a traditional favourite with hearty food and friendly locals, and The Rising Sun, offering a relaxed atmosphere and a warm welcome.

Stanwell is also well connected. A regular bus service (Route 442 running approx. every 30-mins*) links the village directly to Heathrow Airport, Staines-upon-Thames, and onward connections to Windsor, Thorpe Park, and Central London—making The Lodge an ideal base whether you’re catching a flight, visiting local attractions, or exploring further afield.

Set within a tranquil private garden, The Lodge Stanwell Heathrow is a true hidden gem—combining centuries of history with warm, personal hospitality and exceptional convenience.
